Binghamton University

HackBU 2021 will be a 24-hour virtual hackathon from February 6th to February 7th hosted on our HackBU Discord server.

Registration is now closed.

What can you build in 24 hours?

Design

If you're a designer, you are able to bring your knowledge of visual principles and aesthetics to HackBU. Collaborating with developers will allow all parties to flourish, building beautiful and functional hacks.

Code

Programmers galore! Without programmers we wouldn't be much of a hackathon. Whether your interest lie in mobile, web, machine learning, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, artificial reality, or any of the other possible direction, we want you at HackBU. You do not need experience in any of these, all that matters is you have the drive.

Create

Most important, be creative. Do you have some outlandish idea that you don't think you could ever make? Create it at HackBU! We want nothing more than to help you unleash the creativity inside you, we'll take care of the rest.

HackBU is a 350-student hackathon at Binghamton University that aims to foster students' passion and interest for challenging themselves with interesting problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is HackBU?

HackBU is a student-run organization at Binghamton University. We aim to create a community where students can explore technology outside the classroom. We mentor students, hold weekly workshops, and, most importantly, share our interest in programming and problem-solving.

What happens at a hackathon?

At a hackathon, "hackers" form teams with the intention of creating the best type of program (e.g. web app, iPhone app) or hardware hack within a certain period of time.

Who can attend?

This event is open to all students 18 and older. You don't need to be a computer science major or a Binghamton University student to participate!

What if I'm a newbie?

Don't worry, beginners are welcome! Come to HackBU's weekly workshops to learn how to code. Sign up for our mailing list here. If you're not a BU student, check out what clubs your school has to offer.

Do I need a team or idea to sign up?

No! We recommend registering with friends but there will be opportunities to brainstorm with and meet other participants at the hackathon.

Will there be food?

Unfortunately, as the event is virtual this year, food and snacks will not be provided.

Is there a Code of Conduct?

You must agree to the MLH code of conduct to participate in the event.
